About Us
For more than 25 years, Pandora Productions has been the only theatre company in the Louisville Metro area and most of Kentucky exclusively dedicated and most trusted to tell the stories of the LGBTQ+ communities.
Pandora Productions has been telling the stories of the LGBTQ+ community for over 25 years. Born from a small, crazy idea of three artists who wanted to create a musical based on the myth of Pandora, the company has grown to be a shining star in the Louisville arts firmament. Performing a 5 show mainstage season in the Henry Clay Theatre, the company presents bold, cutting edge, award winning musicals, dramas and comedies as well as hosted two national new play competitions. The company celebrates local, regional and national playwrights writing on LGBTQ+ themes with our PlayDates with Pandora series and brand new Intersections project. Under the leadership of the company’s long time Producing Artistic Director, Michael J. Drury, the company has enjoyed fast growth, artistic achievement and prominence in Louisville and nationally.

How do you measure a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan's East Village in the late 80s? Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, struggles to find his place in the world; Roger, a musician, wonders how he will leave his mark before he dies; Mimi and Angel look for true love as they face the harsh reality of life as HIV+ young people; while Joanne seeks fidelity from her performance artist girlfriend Maureen. The group's dreams, losses, and love stories paint a stunningly raw and emotional portrait of the gritty Bohemian world of New York City in the late 1980s. This is theatre at its best - exuberant, passionate, and joyous.

On a plantation during the Civil War, a mystical tree stretches toward Heaven. It protects young enslaved James while he reads newspapers about the imminent possibility of freedom, as the battle rages on. When a brooding stranger arrives, James and his makeshift family take the man in. Soon an unexpected bond leads to a striking romance, and everyone is in uncharted territory. But is love powerful enough to set your true self free? This lyrical and lushly-realized play is part of poet, filmmaker, and playwright Donja R. Love's exploration of queer love at pivotal moments in Black history.

The story of three generations of gay men attempting to forge a future for themselves amid a turbulent and changing America. Eric Glass is a political activist engaged to his writer boyfriend, Toby Darling. These 30-somethings seem to be very much in love and thriving. But on the cusp of their engagement, they meet an older man haunted by the past and a younger man hungry for a future. Chance meetings lead to surprising choices as the three generations interlink and collide - with explosive results.

More than a story of love for family and gay rights, it's a timely culture-shifting show that opens hearts & minds.
