A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE
Victor Jory Theatre at Actors Theatre || September 8 - 18, 2011
Music by Stephen Flaherty, Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Book by Terrence McNally.

Winner of the 2003 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the second work by the Tony Award winners of RAGTIME

The tender and beautifully woven tale of love, friendship and coming to terms with one’s identity takes place in Dublin in 1964.  Alfie Byrne, a middle-aged bachelor living a quiet life with his spinster sister, spends his days as a bus conductor and his nights as a community theater impresario dedicated to the plays of his hero, Oscar Wilde. A modest and quiet man, Alfie has always found his greatest satisfaction as the artistic director of the St. Imelda's Players, an amateur theatrical group housed in the local church. When Alfie declares that, instead of their usual production of The Importance of Being Earnest, the troupe will next present Wilde's provocative Salome, the church authorities balk at the play's "immodest dancing" and his safe little world begins to crumble.

THE TEMPERAMENTALS
MeX Theatre at The Kentucky Center for the Arts || March 22 - April 1, 2012
A new play by Jon Marans.
Winner of the 2010 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performances

During the 1950s ‘temperamental’ was a code word for gay when homosexual witch hunts were at their peak.  Many young men and women were taken by their families to mental institutions to endure forced lobotomies in an effort to 'cure' them.  At the center of this eye-opening chunk of forgotten gay political history from the pre-Stonewall '50s, are Communist activist Harry Hay and fashion designer Rudi Gernreich (infamous for designing the topless swimsuit), clandestine lovers in Hollywood.  Through this love story emerges one of the first ever gay rights organizations in history.  Knowing the toll that oppression was taking on their own love, the two attempted to find others to create the Mattachine Society where they would seek an idealistic world of freedom for themselves and others like them.  Joined by a small group of dedicated souls, we watch them walk through darkness and unbelievable fear to seek that better place.

BARE
Bingham Theatre at Actors Theatre || May 10 - 20, 2012

Book by Jon Hartmere, Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo, Lyrics by Hartmere and Music by Intrabartolo.

Reminiscent of Rent and Spring Awakening as issues of social acceptance, sexual identity, questioning of religion and adults, experimentation with illegal substances, and raging hormones are all explored in this 'pop opera'.

At the center of this tale, set in a Catholic boarding school are altar boy Peter who is in love with his roommate Jason, one of the most popular kids in school. Carrying on a closeted romance, Peter wants to go public with their affair, at least to his mother, whom he loves dearly.  Jason isn't so keen on the idea, as he feels that his entire world would crumble if word of the relationship got out. Things get more complicated when classmate Ivy makes a play for Jason. Her rejected suitor Matt discovers the secret that Peter and Jason have been keeping and it's only a matter of time before things start to spin out of control.  As they struggle to come to terms with who they are, and who the world thinks they should be, they seek answers from their Church, their friends, and ultimately, from within themselves.

By Anthony Wilkinson.

A bawdy, big-haired romp, Brooklyn-style!

Anthony is a romantic who only wants to celebrate his handsome boyfriend and love, Andrew, with the whole world…or at least the entire borough of Brooklyn.  Anthony is Italian so he wants his wedding ceremony to be filled with an abundance of food, fanfare, more food, music, and even more food!  So what’s the big deal?  Anthony’s gay and he wants the blessing of his Italian Catholic parents.  While he insists on a big, traditional Italian wedding, his over-bearing momma has a few stipulations of her own, not the least of which is that the family priest perform the ceremony.  Add to the mix bickering relatives, a crazed wedding coordinator and a jealous ex-boyfriend who wants nothing more than to ruin the whole thing, and you've got one hell of a wedding party!  What follows is a hilarious sequence of events as the boys' extended families try to make the wedding a day they will all never forget.
